Herbert Blakeney, also know as Luqman Bilal, a Pennsylvania death row inmate has been on a hunger strike for over a week now. His only intake has been water. His demands are to correct processing of the perjury charges against the witnesses in his trial and provision of a family Attorney to protect their rights.

Blakeney claims he was framed for a murder that he witnesses by a police officer in 2000. In a petition circulating the Internet written by Linda Blakeney, Herbert's wife from the Uk, it states how the "District Attorney's office key principal witnesses all committed perjury."

Blakeney was "placed in a restraint chair, beaten, tortured, given a mock trial by Guards, coerced to make false statements, the stitches were ripped out of his hand" among other tortures and abuses claims his wife in the petition.

The Blakeney's wish that you view the full petition and sign it if you agree. The petition can be viewed here.

Herbert welcomes correspondence and any help that is offered and can be reached at the following address:

People and media will say a hunger strike is just a publicity stunt. They should try one. Thanks Dee.

I'd like to thank Dee for taking the time to report on our situation. We'd also like to thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. Dan , i know Herbert would be glad to hear from you. This all came about AFTER Herbert filed a request with the Attorney General, requesting an investigation into the perjury in his case. I did an interview with a Philly paper and the reporter called the A.G. to get a comment. The A.G. admitted there was an issue with the lack of the childs blood on Herbert and his clothing but he felt he was still guilty! At the same time, a reporter who had covered part of Herberts trial, called the Attorney General to tell him he had refused me an interview. WHY??? The A.G. told this to the Philly reporter! On 31st April, i got some hate mail informing me that Herberts death sentence had been affirmed. I went to the Supreme Court and was told it was affirmed on 1st May so how did i get the news on 31st April unless it was an inside job??? Neither Herbert or mysel

I'll drop him a line after I get off parole in a few weeks. This kind of thing happens almost every day all around the country. He's just lucky that he has his wife and some people on the outside paying attention. Innocent or guilty, his 5th, 8th, and 14th Amendment rights were severely violated and there's no excuse for that. Another great article, like all the rest of your work I've seen so far.
