Over the years, many people have wondered about the true meaning of Christmas. But, as the world becomes more intelligent and new technologies are invented to make life easier for those who live in the modern world, have we lost touch with the true meaning of Christmas? Is Christmas about following in the footsteps of the Christ Child and giving to the world – or has Christmas become more about what a person receives? Here are three stories about how Christmas has been celebrated throughout three generations of one family that may give us an idea of how Christmas celebrations have changed.

Takeaways
  • The true meaning of Christmas is following the Christ Child's example - give.
  • Through the years, Christmas has become more about receiving.
  • Can we teach our children the true meaning of giving while lavishing them with gifts?

This is truly heartwarming. My family is very distant from each other and it truly makes me wish that we could just all put our differences, and feelings aside before it is too late.

When I get done wiping the tears from my eyes, I will try to type. My mom raised 4 of us kids by herself from the time we were little and we didn't have much. It didn't take much to make us happy. And yes, those fond memories of family times together, sharing, and appreciating even the simples things in life. I miss those days and the meaning of Christmas to us was so much more precious than any of the children of today could ever possibly understand.

Oh, yes! While I read this I couldn't help but drift off into my memories, and what wonderful memories they are. It's true, kids today have no clue, and it's sad. My grandkids have had every toy that has been new on the market, and the same old question..what else did I get. They don't even play with most of it. Sad.

This is a very heart stirring article. It brought tears to my eyes because of the reality of the article is so true. We have forgotten what Christmas is all about. It is about love, peace, and joy. It is about sharing with your loved ones. Thank you for also helping stir up memories of beautiful Christmas' past.
