This week American Idol will host its long-awaited and long-expected all-David finale. This American Idol finale should be exciting as both Davids are enormously talented, and have the popularity to support them. Comparing David Archuleta to David Cook is like comparing apples to oranges, as each one is talented in his own right. Who will be the next American Idol?

David Archuleta vs. David Cook: Singing Talent

David Archuleta has a classically pure voice. He has a beautiful tone, wonderful breath control, sings on pitch, and knows how to belt without sounding forced. He has an especially pleasing higher register. David Archuleta's voice is suited for ballads, Disney songs, pop, or possibly Broadway.

David Cook is a strong singer, better than many other rockers such as Bo Bice and Constantine Maroulis. He has a solid husky tone to his voice, but he doesn't have the flawless vocals of David Archuleta. David Cook occasionally has pitch problems, as seen in his American Idol Top 3 performance "I don't Want to Miss a Thing." Yet these minor pitch problems are not enough to detract from the quality of his fine performances.

The Edge: David Archuleta. Archuleta 1, Cook 0.

David Archuleta vs. David Cook: Stage Presence

David Archuleta is perfect, but maybe a little too perfect. Although he is mature for his age, David Archuleta is a little too programmed in the way he carries himself. This often happens with child stars. Being forced to fit the American Idol mold at such a young age, he hasn't yet developed his own personality. I do have to say, however, that he seemed much more genuine and more relaxed this week. Not having his dad backstage has probably allowed him to open up.

As someone who did not even plan to audition for American Idol, nerves are less of a factor than they are for David Cook. Unlike David Archuleta who has to bear the expectations of annoying stage parents, David Cook can let it loose and be himself on stage. David Cook gives his all in every performance. He exudes confidence, charisma, and a gritty raw energy that lights up the stage.

The Edge: David Cook. Archuleta 1, Cook 1.

How can this article POSSIBLY say that David Archleta has perfect stage presence??? The guy has ZERO stage presence. During his ballads, he either sits on a stool, or he sits behind a piano and pretends to play, and during his few failed attempts at an up-tempo song, he bends slightly forward and throws his hand out as if he's trying to catch a moth. And this article says that he is TOO mature for his age?? WTF!!! He acts like a 6 year old!! All he does is giggles and shrugs and he can't even complete a sentence. He's strange.
