Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi to Wed. Will Audience Divorce?

Wed to the Ellen Show. Audience Divorce Possible?

Since the California Supreme Court lifted the ban on gay marriages, Ellen DeGeneres has announced her plans to wed Portia de Rossi soon. The two have been going together since December of 2004. Is the viewing audience of Ellen ready for that? Or will they be
ready to divorce Ellen for putting gay rights front and center?

I like Ellen DeGeneres. Nothing puts the perk back in my coffee like Ellen dancing down the aisles every afternoon. I enjoy her guests and I think she is a great human being. And according to her ratings, I am not the only one.

But like everyone else, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have jobs. A comedian/talk host and an actress. That's what tunes me in to see them. Not the fact that in their personal life they are gay. Do I need to know their personal preferences to enjoy their work? No. It's the same with politics and celebs. Let me enjoy your work. Don't tell me about your faith, your dislikes of this country, your hate for certain segments of people. Just do your job.

Rosie O'Donnell was doing just great with her show. She was funny and she had an uncanny knowledge of songs. But then she had to get serious about politics and about being gay. Why throw that into a show that seemingly started out so light-hearted? It brought the wrath of viewers down on her head. She hasn't recovered yet.

Is it fair that we should be wondering if Ellen DeGeneres wedding Portia de Rossi will hurt Ellen's show? Yes, I think it is. The show has a lot to offer the viewing audience. But if she goes on a gay rights script every day, I think she will see waning numbers. There are a lot of people that like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi doing their jobs. But a lot of those same people do not approve of gay marriages. And they do not want to endure a day after day reminder of one woman being wed to another..

I'm not good with change. I like what I like. I like Ellen de Generes. If she is going to wed Portia de Rossi, great. Have a happy and healthy life together. I just want the Ellen show to stay the same. No shoving of politics or gay rights down the throats of her audience. I would hate to see Ellen get married on the one hand and divorced on the other.

Hmm.....I have to disagree with Justine. If you didn't know who Portia deRossi was, even before she hooked up with Ellen then you're nuts! She was voted three different times as one of the most beautiful women and featured in many magazines. She has been in several TV shows also. Besides all that.........I believe she and Ellen are truly in love. Who cares about their age.....Ellen don't look like she's 50 and she sure don't act like it either. It's just a number. Let them live their life and be happy.....they're not hurting anybody.

I love Ellen, as a comedian. Her show is getting kind of boring, I have better things to do at that time in the afternoon and I suppose a lot of other gay women do as well, (yes I am a gay woman) It seems that Ellen's fan base (at least her show) is made up of mostly housewives with kids who stay home, not that I said "majority" now. I also wonder if this will hurt the ratings, it may spark the curiosity of some of these stay at homers though! A lot of gay women feel that Ellen's choice to marry Portia is a slap in the face, although we want her happy some of us feel that it won't last and that she is acting like a rich Hollywood male going for a "trophy wife" a younger sex symbol woman and a gigantic age difference. Who was Portia? no one knew until she hooked up with Ellen!

Yep, she is neat, no longer gay, just a neat woman with a great sense of humor. Now if having multiple marriage parters were alright we might one day have a free country.

Bobby...what a witty write up on Ellen, and I think it probably pretty much covers the attitude of a lot of Americans...she is popular, I have no doubt, and I'm not surprised that she is planning to "marry" her girlfriend since the opportunity to do so has been handed to them by the "left"coast. I am, however, dismayed at how the majority of America seems to be either not paying attention or not caring that the small radical "in your face" noise makers have managed to manipulate their way into cowtowing the country , much of it with the more than willing politicians pandering with their "political correctness" gone amuck...all for those precious votes. In my opinion America has lost her moral rudder when it comes to some things. Ca. had a choice...they could have come down on the side of a "civil union" of some sort between two people of the same sex OR they could have caved in to that loud vocal group who would settle for nothing less than a so called "marriage" between same se

I get a hoot out of her. I just don't want it to turn into a platform like Rosie's show. 'Cause that will change the whole aura of it. And her dance segment would be greatly missed by me..lol.

Ellen announcing her upcoming wedding is no different than any other talk show host, or celebrity announcing their upcoming wedding. Just because she is gay doesn't mean she should not have to right to be happy and share her joy and love with others. As a Christian, I do not support gay marriage b/c the Bible does not support it, and wrote an article on here title "The Bible, Church, God and Homosexuality" that outlines my views. BUT I love the Ellen show and do not think her getting "married" will hurt her ratings at all. I do agree however that if she turns her show into a daily "gay rights" platform, then it might hurt her ratings ... but hopefully that will not happen.
