Waiting at the airport ticket gate, we have Clinton who is ducking from sniper fire, Obama who brought his wacky preacher travel companion, and McCain who is guzzling champagne with one of his biggest campaign contributors who just traded Arizona grasslands for valuable federal property, thanks to his buddy, McCain. The baggage these 2008 Presidential Candidates bring to the campaign is not all that different from past politician passengers: lies, questionable morals, and corruption. It seems that America is faced with deciding which of these character traits packed in the presidential candidates' overweight suitcases is the least worrisome for the future of our country.

Inspecting Clinton's Baggage

I'm a firm believer in giving people a second chance if they make some mistakes in judgment during their political career. After all, we are human and nobody is exempt from skeleton bones in their baggage. There is no doubt that Hillary Clinton will pack Bill Clinton in her suitcase when traveling to the White House to serve as President. While I think our country was better off under Bill Clinton than we are under George Bush, I remain skeptical and critical of White Water, Pardongate, and the lies told during Clinton's charges of infidelity. There seems to be a pattern of telling lies in the Clinton family that heavily weigh down the suitcase. I thought Hillary Clinton was redeeming herself until she blurted out having to hide from sniper fire. OK, maybe she misspoke or forgot what she was saying, but please - how can you make up a story about sniper fire and be wrong about it?

Clever article. First sentence inspiring! Now, if I can just sort the baggage out, and vote intelligently.

I like you and therefore am not going to get into an argument here but will say that a vote for MCCain is a vote for 4 more years of the same crap we have been dealing with these last 8 years! Giving a "man" your vote because he was a POW is absurd, that has nothing to do with how he will lead this country! We simply cannot afford to continue this occupation, we simply cannot afford to allow our soliders to die for nothing and we simply cannot afford to allow them to continue to commit suiside in record numbers once they are home! McCain wants not only to continue this war but to go after Iran as well - well, not with my 18 year old son!!!! I have lost a nephew for Bush's little plan while Bush has lost nothing, it cannot continue - how many lives are being destroy over this lie? And then there is the economy....

You did a beautiful job on this and I agree with many of your points. I love the title you chose! They all do have their baggage.

Good one. I'm not a McCain fan myself because most of his ideas are just about as liberal as his oponents. But if I'm going to screwed over again anyway, I'm certainly not about to vote for two people that I don't trust. H. Clinton is worse than Bill so that alone eliminates her. Obama scares the heck out of me too. That only leaves McCain. It's a matter of the lesser or three evils.

A well researched one. Very Well presented. But my view is, "the politicians change their trend according to their whims and fancies, not according to their voters. Like a chameleon they change their color for their convenience. This is the sad situation not only in US but the world. So these baggages wait and problems are nothing for them. Somehow they wanted to occupy the seat of power by any hook or crook. You did a good job here. My Five ***** Phil

Very clever article. I''m with you. I will be voting for McCain. We know too much about Hillary and Bill and nothing about Obama. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop for Obama when the Rezko matter is brought to light. I know a lot about McCain and his positives far outweigh his negatives.

Excellent metaphor for the campaign. I completely agree with your rankings, although I think Sen. McCain's lobbying issues are far more benign than the baggage of Hillary and Obama. McCain is not corrupt at all: at worst, it's typical political quid-pro-quo. There is nothing illegal or unethical about this. By the Washington Post account you site, McCain initially opposed the land swap and only supported it after careful study and environmental safeguards were included in the bill. As per my recent column, I have more serious issues with McCain (e.g., his economic ignorance and pushing of a ridiculous gas tax holiday), but I'm still voting for him. But I agree that he's the least flawed of a very flawed field.

If you're going to bring up Obama's Reverend, you might as well bring up McCain's spiritual adviser as well. I've covered that base at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/746961/extreme_fundamentalist_christians_dont.html If we're going to analyze candidates, they should all be up for the same issues at once; let's not compare apples and oranges.
