Most of us know what cell phones ultimate purpose is, to annoy us all because it makes our places of employment easier to get a hold of us, or our family to get a hold of us at the most inopportune times. But if you are like me, cell phones used to be a big part of my life, but now I have no cell phone that works and I happy for that.

If you have an old unused cell phone, instead of throwing it in the trash. Here is some from inventive games you can play with them.

Spin the cell phone (A new version of the old classic "spin the bottle")
Have you and your friends sit in a circle and spin the cell. Now if the cell phone is a flip phone, open it up and let the top part be the pointer. If your cell phone is not a flip phone and has an antenna, use the atenna as the pointer. If it has no antenna, well be inventive.

Table top bowling
Set up some pins, like soda cans, or plastic cups(make sure they are recyclable cups, that way you can recycle them when done.) Have one person on one end of the table, to make sure the cell doesn't fall off and of course the "bowler". Then have fun. Of course switch places so your friend gets a chance.

Jump rope
I have never tried this, but if you do let me know if it works. With cell phones comes the annoying chargers, and most of us have a billion of these. Find two chargers and tie the two ends that would have originally plug into the phone together. The actually ends that plug into the wall will be your handles. Have fun!

Pretend phone
This is great for the kids. Let them use the phone for pretend. Make sure you remove the battery, that way nothing happens to the kids, incase there is some charge left.

Hide and go seek
Have the kids play a fun game of hide and go seek. The cell phone will be the one who hides. Pick one person to hide the cell phone in any location around the house. Make sure that their chosen place of hiding is not the diswasher. The other child(ren) will count, like normal. Then they tried to find the phone. Make sure to alternate the kid who hides it and the counters.

Here is just some of the fun ideas to do with an old cell phone or two. Have fun and be inventive.

Don't forget...you can also do practical things with your old cell phone. It's great for teaching your preschooler numbers, as well as for practicing the proper way to answer a phone and for teaching when and how to call 9-1-1. Of course, like you said, Yvonne...make sure the battery is out of it if you are practicing 911 calls. Even an unactivated phone can really call 911.
