Do you have an aquarium that you no longer use for for either tropical or saltwater fish, you can always pass it along to someone else. Every year, millions of people discover the joy of keeping a tank full of fish to care for and watch. You can also sell the empty aquarium with all the necessary equipment at a yard sale and recoup some of the money you spent on the hobby. Lastly, you can donate the empty aquarium to your child's school. My husband and I kept fish for years but have recently decided not to replenish the tank after the last of the fish died. I intend to keep the aquarium and have come up with some creative ideas to continue to use it.

Unique Uses For Your Empty Aquarium: Home For Small Pets. An empty aquarium makes a very good home for small pets such as hamsters, gerbils and Guinea pigs. Simply fill the bottom of the aquarium with soft bedding and place a mesh screen over the top to keep the animals safe. The storage cabinet underneath many aquariums makes a perfect place to keep the animal's food, bedding material and miscellaneous items. The only drawback to using an empty aquarium to house small pets is that cleaning it will be somewhat of a chore as there is no slide out tray as there is is with traditional small pet cages. When it comes time to clean and refresh the bedding, the entire aquarium will need to be emptied out and cleaned thoroughly before replacing the material.

Unique Uses For Your Empty Aquarium: Candle Display. Fill your empty aquarium halfway with clean sand. Arrange votives or pillar candles around the aquarium in an attractive design. Use colored stones or beach glass to fill in empty spaces. Imagine how pretty your aquarium will look all lit up during your next dinner party or holiday gathering.

I especially love your last idea. We seem to have the "fair fish" that won't die. I am kidding but this is round four for our family for fish won at a fair and these fish are still alive after almost five years and everyone that brings a fish home from a fair that lives a day, week or month wants to know what we're doing. Clueless. Just the basics. I'll bookmark just in case....

Great job, and such fantastic ideas. I will pass this on to my mom. She has an empty tank and does not know what to do with it. She is tired of fish.
