One of the best things you can do for your child is to promote learning and creativity. This article lists 10 fun ways to help your child learn the alphabet. It is a continuation of the article, "15 Fun Ways to Teach Your Child the Letters of the Alphabet." Enjoy!

1. Make an Alphabet Blanket: Don't worry, you don't have to know how to sew to create this one. Just grab a regular blanket, and some alphabet patches. You can purchase iron-on patches from craft stores, or online at places like this store. Let the child decide where each letter will go on the blanket, and then you (of course) will iron them on (Don't let the child use the iron!) It will be a fun activity you can do together, and he/she will have a great blanket to use as well.

2. Create an Alphabet Book: I have to give my second grade teacher, Mrs. Graham at Watkins Mill Elementary of Gaithersburg, MD, credit for this one. This activity is more for older children. Get a mini-scrapbook or photo album, or just staple 27 sheets together. Let the first page be the title page, such as "My Alphabet Book." Assign each of the following pages a letter of the alphabet. Under each letter, have the child draw something that begins with the letter. For example, for "F" he/she could color a flower, friend, fish, etc. For "G" they could draw giraffe, girl, gum, etc. If the child is younger, you could take pictures (or cut them out from magazines, print them off online, etc.), to put it the book. (Similar to a collage but in book form.)

3. Get Some Refrigerator Magnets: I know this one's obvious, but the article wouldn't be complete if I didn't include it. There are many people around the world who mastered their ABC's with these little magnets. Show each one to your youngster, encourage him/her to say the letter, and play with them on the fridge. You can purchase them at Wal-Mart or other stores, or buy them online from sites such as this one. When your child gets older, you can use them to encourage him/her to spell out words.

I like the blanket idea! I just have to put out a word of caution about the magnetic alphbet letters. We all had them as children, but they can be choking hazards. A friend's 2 year old choked on a lower case "a". She was fine after going to the hospital, but it was a very scary situation. I have opted to used the magnetic letters made by "Leap Frog" rather than the traditional.

Very creative and I'd use these with young children, reminded me of my own youngsters and learning the alphabet.
