Anna Maria Island, Florida

A classical name for a classical destination. Anna Maria Island on the west coast of Florida combines action and relaxation amidst its surreal waters that offers all visitors an unforgettable experience.
Do not be fooled by the fact that it is an island nine miles long and two miles wide, because it positively ensures that size does not delude from what it can offer the traveler. Seven miles of seductive white sands that contains all that you will ever need with an escape from the modern
hectic lifestyle in a laid back and relaxing environment.The barrier island is divided into three main municipalities. Anna Maria City to the North which is predominately residential, Bradenton Beach to the South with its resorts and rentals, and the city of Holmes Beach in the center, known locally as the 'business' area with its shops, restaurants and local amenities.
Access to the island is by the two main bridges that connect to the mainland. With the main international airports of Sarasota/Bradenton and Tampa Bay within 40 miles, served by several airline carriers and car rental companies, it leaves little wonder as to why Anna Maria is an international destination.
Traveling around the island is simple with both car hire and public transport, but as the island is completely flat why not take the advantage and hire a bicycle to explore. Parking has always been problematic but the alternatives on land sea and air, like the free trolley service, boat and paragliding hire more than compensate and allow for easy access in getting and seeing all around.
There are several types of accommodation available, but why not try the alternative to hotels and bed and breakfasts and sample one of the various vacation rentals that litter the island. The choice is endless, from a beach-side apartment for two to a family sized condo overlooking breathtaking scenery and the several waterways that cross the island. The only dilemma you are faced with is choosing, but you can be sure to find a property to suit your individual needs.

As part of Florida's "Forgotten Coast," St. George Island is one of the many pleasures of Northwest Florida, and it boasts some of the most unspoiled beaches in the state.
