Sarah Palin: John McCain's Ticket to the White House
Senator John McCain (R-AZ), the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has an uphill battle to the White House.
The sitting president, a fellow Republican, is one of the most unpopular presidents in modern history, the country is in a notoriously unpopular war that Sen. McCain staunchly supports, and the Democratic Party appears to have a level of momentum not seen since the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. If that wasn't bad enough, hard-line conservatives and members of the Religious Right, the base of the Republican Party, are less than thrilled that John "Maverick" McCain is the new standard-bearer for the GOP. Combine that with the issues of his age and hot-headed temper and the deck is clearly stacked against Sen. McCain.
Although McCain is at a serious disadvantage in every possible way, all is still not lost. He has one last trump card left, his Vice Presidential nominee. A good, talented, young, conservative, history making Vice Presidential nominee is exactly what John McCain needs in order to finally energize the Republican base and to court independents and Reagan Democrats who are disenchanted with the Democratic primary debacle. The country currently has a ferocious appetite for change and reform and McCain, while known for his maverick, reforming, take-no-prisoners persona, will need someone else alongside him to represent the real change that Americans want. Enter Sarah Palin (R-AK). The current governor of Alaska is a God-send to the Republican Party. She's young, energetic, and a common-sense conservative with communication skills that rival those of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL). She would balance out the ticket and address almost every concern that voters currently have about John McCain.
