Did you know that it is possible for your child to have a hearing problem and for you not realize it? Millions of children are at risk for hearing problems around the world. Especially those who have a family history of hearing complications. It is very important that you take the time to get your children tested for at least the first few years of their life in order to ensure that they do not have any type of hearing disability. Most states will test your child’s hearing when they are first born. If there is any type of problem noticed they will immediately send your child for additional testing.

If your newborn passes the first hearing test you should still make sure that you watch for signs of hearing problems. Some such signs are your child does not react to loud noises, they do not recognize your voice by three months of age, does not turn his or her head or eyes toward a particular sound, does not begin to imitate sounds or small words by the age of one. Those who are more at risk for hearing problems are also children who were born prematurely, had some complications during birth, or perhaps were given medication that could cause this problem.
