because Haiti and Cuba for that matter have earned themselves a notoriously bad reputation for instability and poverty. Luckily, Punta Cana is at the southern edge of the island far away from everything else. It is quite remote and beautiful. It has attracted people such as Brad Pitt to look at property there, as well as Robert De Niro who has been to the presidential palace for lunch.

I must agree that Punta Cana is one of the top vacation spots in the Carribean. My husband and I stayed at the Bavaro Hotel also several years ago and loved every minute of it. We found only two drawbacks. It took until bedtime to have our bags brought to our room (we arrived at 4:00 in the afternoon). Also, someone told us not to order steak in the restaurants because Dominican cattle are thin and the meat tough and stringy unlike our fat American cows. We found this to be true. But all of the other food was wonderful, especially the seafood and shellfish. As part of our all-inclusive stay we were treated to a jeep excursion into the jungle-covered mountains and to a luau at one of the neighboring hotels, two fabulous experiences and highlights of the trip. I would recommend this vacation to anyone. By the way, a local there told us that it is lime deposits in the water that make the ocean so blue and the sand white and keep the beach sand cool to the touch. Go there if you can
