Wow! It would seem that the deep well of endlessness that is the World Wide Web has corralled the troops one more time. But this isn't a political movement...per say; this isn't a social organization either, this isn't a protest in the protesting sense of the word, but in a way it is all of these things. The beautiful irony is that despite its social aims, my latest find online is billed, in fact, a "Night of Mayhem."On Saturday, May 31, The People's Alliance for the Right to Party is hosting an underground party on "the tube." The laws for public conduct have always been a little more lax in London than in the major cities across the pond. Whatever you attribute that to; the fact is that the CDC and tourists from Albuquerque are taking a stand.
One of Londoner's main sources of transportation is their "tube" system. While "the tube" may imply that it is underground (or underwater) primarily, the fact is that more than half of the tracks are in fact above ground. Londoners have long taken their leisure in doing the unwinding that they need to do after a long day at the office on their trains by engaging in leisure activities like smoking and drinking.
Smoking on the tube has been illegal for some years now, however one of the recent developments put into place for tube riders is that come June 1, there will be no drinking allowed on the trains either. While this may seem like one of those things that is just understood to riders of subway systems like the NYC subway system, the fact is that it is usually done discreetly, when at all.
The People's Alliance for the Right to Party has laid that dog out to rest and shot it dead in the head. The fact is they are making hay and want to go out in a blaze of glory. While the occasion is slated for "the second to last carriage" on the "first train after 9PM at Liverpool Street Station" on the "Circle Line" rail, the response from people all over the World Wide Web has been more than startling.
