Rebecca Payne was found dead in her Parker Hill Avenue apartment shortly before 7 a.m. After noticing blood inside and finding the apartment door slightly ajar, the building manager called 911. Friends seem to be devastated at the death of the 22-year-old college student of the Northeastern University in Boston. The police are still looking for clues as to who would have done this, as reported by the Boston Herald.

College is supposed to be an exciting time of a person's life but all too often does it end in a tragedy like the one that took Payne's life.

During the course of college there are many things that a person may do that puts them in harms way and they may not even realize this. A person may not realize that danger is lurking around the corner and it could take their life in an instance.

Self-defense classes have been known to protect many men and women around the world. Taking a self-defense class does not only protect you from an attacker but it also teaches you ways to know when danger is around and how to keep yourself safe at all times throughout the day.

Arming you with things like pepper spray, can also come in handy with an attacker. Pepper spray may disarm the attacker or catch them off guard long enough for you to get away or get help. The only down-fall to pepper spray is that it often sprays everywhere and may even make you blind for the time being.

Staying in a controlled area may also make attackers afraid of attacking you or breaking into your home. Many apartments now offer security officers to help protect the attendants. If yours does not have one, you should think about moving to one that does. These security guards are often trained in what to do if someone is being attacked.

Purchasing extra locks or security devices could help to protect you if someone is trying to break in. The extra locks could give you enough time to call for help.

Good article. What a sad thing. I have a college age son. I am concerned for he and his friends. You just never know what is going to happen.

Good self-defense tips. One thing to remember about carrying pepper spray, or any other type of weapon, is that you must be ready, willing, and able to use it without hesitation. Don't give your attacker time to wrestle it away from you and use it against you!
