Alex Phillips Charged with Child Porn Because of Myspace Page Pictures

Alex Phillips, a Wisconsin teenager, has been charged with child pornography because of nude pictures that had been allegedly posted on his Myspace page. Authorities say the photos are of a 16-year-old girl. This 17-year-old from La Crosse, Wisconsin, allegedly told police he is going to keep the pictures on his page, although he could be jailed for having them on his Myspace account, according to the Associated Press.

Teenagers need to realize the risk of danger associated with posting inappropriate pictures, videos and content on the internet. It seems that it comes with an attitude of nonchalance. The disregard for others disturbs me, as I am a mother with one of these daughters who has had pictures posted on the internet. I know about the consequences that come with it, which my daughter had to deal with because someone posted these inappropriate pictures.

When she had discovered the pictures posted on the internet my first thought was what she had been thinking when posing for these pictures, these pictures were somewhat provocative in nature, and she was far from an adult. She had to deal with the repercussions first hand, of her actions and that was enough for her to have to deal with, so I refrained from scolding her at this time.

We contacted the webmaster of the website, and clearly told him that she was underage. The pictures were promptly removed, an apology was issued, and the account was removed of the person that had decided to post these pictures. I was satisfied with the outcome of the situation, but was still worried about where else these pictures would surface.

As a concerned parent, I contacted the parents of the individual that had snapped these pictures, and they were going to deal with their child accordingly, I am assuming the pictures have been discarded as we have not had any problems with them surfacing, to date. I guess, in most cases the fear of being charged with underage provocative pictures is enough is enough to quell the posting.
