What You Should Know Before Getting Chairside Teeth Whitening Done

Everyone wants a beautiful, white smile. Teeth whitening, also known as teeth bleaching, is a great way to get the smile that you've always wanted. It works quick, it's done quick and it won't cost you a fortune. Between prep time and the actual teeth whitening itself, it will take you between an hour and an hour and a half. Before going to get chairside teeth whitening done, there are a few things that you should know first.

Not everyone is a good candidate to get teeth whitening done. Not all stains can be removed, but your dentist will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate depending on your lifestyle and the condition of your teeth. If you have teeth that have a gray tint to them, as opposed to teeth that have a yellowish tint to them, you won't get the results that you are looking for.

If you have any bridges, white fillings, partials, crowns or any other teeth that are not your own or partially not your own, they will not get any lighter then they already are. Teeth whitening cannot whiten them.

Get all of the dental work completed first on your mouth before you get teeth whitening done. Normally, if you are getting any procedures done, such as fillings, the shade of the newly done work is going to be matched up to the current shade of your teeth. If you are planning on getting whitening done in the future, the dentist will make the shade of the newly done work a lighter shade to match up with the shade that you may have after you get the teeth whitening.

For about two days after you get the teeth whitening done, you are going to have to avoid colored foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, grape juice, tomato sauce and any other colored food or drinks that can stain. If you have to have any of these drinks or foods, you must brush immediately afterwards.

Chances are there will be some sensitivity in the teeth and the gums for about a few days following your teeth whitening procedure. When I had it done, my sensitivity lasted only about a day. A few other people had sensitivity longer.
