Are you planning a party? Do you need party favor ideas? My most popular and budget friendly idea is toilet paper tube favors. Since we all have them, doesn't it make sense to put them to good use rather than add them to our overflowing landfill?

To make the toilet paper tube characters, follow these simple instructions.

Step 1-Cut a piece of muslin 1 3/4" x 6" for the head and a piece of novelty print fabric 3" x 6" for the body that matches your holiday party or theme.

Step 2-Glue the muslin around one end of the toilet paper tube, overlapping the ends for the back seam. Glue the novelty print around the other end, overlapping the muslin and lining up the back seam with the muslin back seam.

Step 3-The feet are cut from black poster board, but any color will work to match the party theme. Cut a 3" heart and round the point. Apply a bead of craft glue around the edge of the body end and center the tube on the heart (feet) and allow to dry.

Step 4-For the hat, cut a piece of felt 6" x 6" in a color to match the body print. Fold the felt over, matching two sides and stitch the long side using a 1/4" seam. Turn right side out and tie embroidery floss or ribbon around one end of the felt tube, about 1" from the end for the hat top. Fold a cuff on the other end and slip onto the head end of your toilet paper tube character. Do not glue in place. It will be removable so that the goodies can be placed inside.

Step 5-Add detail to the face by applying blush to the cheeks with a cotton swab, gluing a button for the nose and dotting black paint for the eyes using the blunt end of a wood skewer.

These are basic steps to create toilet paper tube party favors. If you would like to embellish and tweak your characters for different holidays and themes, try these suggestions.

Santa Claus-Cut a white beard from felt and apply it to the face. Fold forward the gathered knot of the hat down over the hat cuff and glue. Glue a large white button over the embroidery floss.

Scarecrow-Glue fabric patches on the hat and body and using a marker, draw triangles for the eyes. Clip a few pieces of raffia and glue around the feet.

Great ideas! A picture or two would have added to it. Thanks for the tips!
