Aggressive dog behavior is unacceptable because it can lead to serious consequences especially if there are children in the home. A dog adopts aggressive behavior to harm or intimidate a person or another animal. Aggressive behavior can take the form of snarling, baring of teeth, growling, snapping and biting. It is natural for dogs to be aggressive but such behavior is unacceptable in human society. The system of communication between humans and dogs is different and this can lead to misunderstandings between them leading to such unacceptable behavior by dogs. Dogs perceive by observing movement, facial expression, tail position smell, eye contact and posture.Many dog owners refuse to acknowledge that there is any problem when their dog shows aggressive behavior. Many of them think the dog will eventually outgrow such behavior and but it actually becomes worse. Some owners simply don't want to go to the trouble of spending time and money to solve the problem. Others neglect because they think that their dog's nature is a reflection of their own which is not true because even in the best families dogs have been found to be aggressive. It is best to deal with the problem from the time it is first observed because the dog becomes more aggressive as it gets older. Moreover immediate action is necessary as it may take only one bite to cause a lot of pain and trauma.
Aggressive behavior by your dog can lead to pain and suffering for lifetime, lawsuits, loss of your renters or homeowners insurance, loss of home, charges for child endangerment, loss of the dog and worse of all it may lead to fatalities. Sometimes friendly gestures by humans can be perceived as threatening by dogs leading to aggression. The underlying reasons for aggression in dogs are complex and need good understanding is necessary for correcting such behavior.In case of constant or excessive aggression is advisable to seek the professional advice of an animal behaviorist who is an expert in this type of dog training. Ask your vet to recommend a good one.
