It's that time of year again, when summer is heating up and barbecues are in full swing. Family and friends from all over will gather for food, fun and celebration. In preparation, I've composed a fun-filled list of
games that everyone can enjoy as you celebrate our country's independence. NOTE: Read carefully and play at your own risk.

1. Pin the Blame on the Idiot - Can be played inside or outside. Print out a picture of your favorite American Idol contestant (or politician), tape it to the wall, blindfold the "pinner," hand them a black magic marker, spin 3 times, let them go. For added fun, after blindfolding, move small objects into the path of the pinner.

2. Firecrackers in the [insert food here] - Use this activity as an alternative to the popular food fight of yesteryear. Not for children under the age of five, they can usually make a better mess anyway. Note: Mushrooms and chilidogs make spectacular presentations.

3. Lawn Darts - Buy a set of old lawn darts at a yard sale, preferably the kind with the heavy metal tips. But instead of tossing them into the hoops that come with the game, use old Christmas and birthday gifts that you hate. Portraits of Oil company CEOs work great also but as of lately, these are in short supply and high demand, and are expected to reach $5 a gallon by July.

4. Midget Toss - Offensive to most little people, but fun for everyone else. Also, they tend to be on the expensive side to rent.

5. Spin the Cat - Take a cat, spin him around repeatedly, watch him try to walk. Fun for the whole family. Also works with small yippy dogs and three year olds that won't eat their vegetables.

6. Mudpie Blind Taste-Test - Extremely fun when you advertise it as a real pie taste-test but switch the entries at the last second.

7. One word: Slip-n-Slide - There's nothing better than a long piece of plastic and a bunch of water. For maximum effect, add baby oil and position plastic on slight incline.
