The Zodiac Killer: A Look at the Horror ScopeOne of the most baffling cases in the history of law enforcement is that of the Zodiac Killer. The Zodiac killer claimed to murder thirty-seven people in his five-year career in San Francisco. Many amateur sleuths, as well as the police, are trying to crack this case.
Starting in 1966 and ending in 1974, the Zodiac Killer wrote a complex set of letters to police, families, and entertainment giants including Channel 9 KCAL-TV of Los Angeles. The letters detailed many killings and often were taunts to the police. The Zodiac Killer wanted his name known throughout the world.
CHAPTER ONE: THE ZODIAC KILLER STRIKES HIS FIRST VICTIMS
Attack Details: David Faraday, 17 and Betty Lou Jensen, 16 are the first known victims of the Zodiac. Jensen and Faraday were relaxing in Faraday's station wagon at approximately 11:15 PM on Friday, Dec. 20, 1968 when shots were fired into the vehicle to force the victims out. Faraday was shot in the head at point blank range as he exited the vehicle and Jensen was shot in the back five times when she fled on foot.
Weapon Used and Witnesses: The weapon used was a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The ammunition used was Winchester Western Super X copper-coated long rifle. There was no indication of robbery or sexual molestation. There were no witnesses to the murders. Stella Borges, a local resident, said she passed a light-colored vehicle speeding in the opposite direction on Lake Herman Road before discovering the crime scene and calling police.
The Zodiac Connection: The Zodiac didn't take credit for these attacks until months after they came to light. Because of this, some debunk the theory that the Zodiac killed these teens. However, when the Zodiac finally did take credit for these attacks he divulged some information that was known to the public before that time.
