Can Machines Think?

IntroductionCan machines think? The title of this essay is stating that thinking is a physical process. I disagree, and choose to believe that there is more to thought than just the brain. This is a question which has plagued mankind for centuries. A question which is considered to have no definite answer. To fully understand the question and how I reached my answer, we must explore not only the capabilities of computers, but the majesty of the brain, the 'computer' which controls every human being.
What is thinking?
Right at this moment, you are thinking. Thinking whether or not it is possible for a machine to think. So what is happening internally which allows you to think? Science still fails to answer this question. There are sectors in our brain which control certain outputs of thought - language, for example - but nobody can pinpoint the section of the brain where our thoughts actually come from. The current scientific conclusion is: it is something that is not physical, it is a process which requires all sections of the brain rather than just one section, or it is simply really hard to find.
