The other day my brother, sister, and I were talking about catching up on our geneology. Our Mother and Father have passed and we want our children and their children to know the rich history of our family. What is amazing is we have relatives I didn't even know about who were honored and knighted in Europe before migrating to the United States. We have a Coat of Arms for our family and legend has it that our relative is honored in a stained glass window design on a German church because he saved some Nuns. After this heroic effort, he was knighted and my Mom's maiden name now included the title "Von" before it.

After hearing that kind of cool story, we searched more into other relatives we might have who fought on U.S. soil or for the U.S. military efforts. My brother, sister, and I never knew either of our grandfathers. We learned that in fact, our grandfathers are U.S. veterans in various wars. We are continuing to search other records about them to see who they were and what they did in their lives. It is still a mystery to us, but nevertheless, I will honor my ancestors this Memorial Day, in addition to honoring all the fallen heroes and their families.

If you would like to search for ancestors in your family who may be military heroes, you can check out these search sites. You can also read the family military heritage of all of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain at the military records site.

My family is full of military heroes on both sides. I try to remember everything they went through just so that I could live the way that I do.
