How to Save Money with a Baby

Through trial and experience, I have learned how to save money on certain baby expenses. The first thing is to make your own baby wipes. This may sound like a lot of work, and you may think that it wouldn't save that much, but it really does help. The recipe I use
is 2 cups of warm water one teaspoon of baby oil, and one and one half teaspoons of baby wash. You mix the ingredients, and I put them in a regular wipes container. Take a roll of paper towels, which you can usually find on sale at your local drugstore. When I find them on sale and use a coupon, I can usually get a roll for about $0.75. Cut the roll into thirds, then take one section and tear them apart. Once you have them all torn apart, cut them in half, and put them in the wipe solution that you already have prepared. Let them soak, usually an hour, and then they are ready to use.

The average cost of a box of baby wipes is around $2.00, but when you make them yourself, you can make a box for around $0.25. That is a savings of $1.75 per box. That adds up to $91.00 per year, if you use a box of wipes every week. That really adds up when you are pinching every penny

Another thing that you can do is use cloth diapers. I know when you think about cloth diapers, you probably get a mental picture of the old fashioned white ones that you fold and pen on the baby. The ones I am referring to are the diapers that actually look like disposable diapers. I prefer to use the All In One diapers; you don't have to buy any additional soakers or covers. I have found some really good deals on diapers made by work at home moms that you can find on sites like eBay. Everyone knows how expensive a pack of diapers can be, even the cheap ones cost about $6.00 for a small pack.

If you do choose to use the disposable diapers, check for sales. Most chain drugstores have a valued member club. Using my club cards, coupons and sales, I have managed to find diapers for around $4.00 a pack. This is a savings of $2.00 per pack on average. If you add that up, by the end of the year, if you use a pack a week, that is a savings of $104.00. Every penny adds up.
