I decided to see another piece of the world, so of course I went to Florida.

On this visit I saw many things in a short space of time, all within the area of St. Petersburg and Tampa.

The Lowry Park Zoo on Tampa Bay is just one of the nicest day, or during special events evening, trips one can take.

The price of admission is up a bit over past years. The full adult fair is $14.95. Senior fare (over 60) is $13.95; the child’s fare is $10.95 and under 2 years you get in free.

There is also a special boat ride tour for an extra $14, $13, and $10 respectively. There is a discounted price for combining entry and the boat tour.

Like most days, the zoo was open from 9:30 to 5 on this day. It was a Monday meaning that many of the concessions were closed. In the fall/winter period everything is open only on the weekends and special nights.

My brother and his wife got in free as they purchase annual passes every year. That is one way to save if you live in the area or frequently visit it.

With them as a guide, I had to see the baby elephant first. I had to see it because it was so cute. The lady at the entry gate told us that the elephants were going in at two and it was after one already.

We hustled right over to the elephant enclosure along clean well paved paths.

At first it looked like there were only humongous elephants. Huge grey beasts clean from there afternoon dip in the pond. Then out from behind a couple of huge legs comes this tiny little elephant.

This little elephant is now one year old. It acts older than it is. One of the large female elephants picked up a log. Not to be outdone the little tike latched on to one end as if to help out.

We spent quite a bit of time watching this little elephant try to pulls its weight. The little elephant came close to being pulled skyward by its strong grasp on the log.

Then all the elephants headed to the other end of enclosure and lined up waiting to get a breather from the crowd. I suspect the park gives them elephant treats after a period of entertaining the patrons.
