Every year comes around the advertisements for big Fourth of July displays. They advertise the big fireworks that will be there and wher to go to see their "spectacular" displays. Unfortunately, these diplays can become actually boring after a while. It's huge fire works that don't look much different than each other exploding in mid-air above you or as seen on the television.I actually find it more interesting to have a quieter celebration at home--after all I can see most of the fireworks that are 2-15 miles away from my house. I don't always pay much attention to them, but they are visible unless it is extremely cloudy out. I can even here light booms and crackling even at my distance.
Our family has the option of watching the same fireworks on television on more than one channel. I only remember 1 or 2 years I actually paid attention to those programs. They sometimes try to make itmore ineteresting with stars that come out and perform and/orsing on these specials before the fireworks, but even those people get boring to watch.
What do I do on the fourth of July to make it more interesting? Well, it isn't the picnic we sometimes have. In fact, I don't even have to leave my property to do something fun on the fourth. We light fireworks right at home.
Some might wonder how home fireworks can be more fun than the huge ones. If it involves the whole family--yes it is more fun. My parents never want to see the downtown fireworks, but this gives them something to do on the fourth. Also, I find it particularly exciting to light the fireworks off. I can't set the ones downtown off, but I can light the ones I get for excitement.
There's also something about being that close to live fireworks that makes it interesting and more exciting. Sometimes you wander where all the sparks shooting out will land. Other times you wonder if the firework will blast off in your direction and you'll have to run. All in all, everyone likes to look at the pretty or exciting fireworks going off in our driveway.
