This year I was thinking about both my father and my stepfather, and if I could this is what I would give my father or stepdad for Father's Day this year. My father died 1983 and my stepdad died in 2002. For some reason this year I really am missing them both more than usual. Since I can't give them a gift for Father's Day, I thought I would share with you what I would have done. Perhaps, someone will be inspired to do it for their father or the father figure in their life. I would burn them a CD (after paying for downloading them, of course) of country songs that featured songs about a father's love. They are very powerful and moving songs. Your father will be hard pressed not to cry in front of you. Why country songs? Because my daddy and stepdad both loved country music and that's they what would want to hear. Here are the five songs I would put on that CD: Daddy's Hands as sung by Holly Dunn
Although, I very rarely cry, every time I listen to this song I do cry. It is very touching and when she sings the line "There was always love in Daddy´s hands" I'm a puddle. Or should I say I make a puddle.
Love Without End, Amen sung by George Strait
I manage not to cry with this one, barely. My favorite part of the song is in the chorus "Daddies don't just love their children every now and then. It's a love without end, amen."
Seeing My Father In Me as sung by Paul Overstreet
This applies more to a son than a daughter, but I do see parts of my father in myself. He was very creative storyteller and I one day hope to be as good as a writer as him. So the line "I'm happy to see my father in me"is what appeals to me most.
Til I was a Daddy Too as sung by Tracey Lawrence
Again this one is through a man's point of view, but it says something I would want my father and stepdad to know. That the older I get the more I understand what they were teaching me. That is what I get from the line "More and more I'm seeing life go by Thru my Daddy's eyes."
That's My Job sung by Conway Twitty
This song gets to me because a father is telling his child "Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me. That's my job you see."
