A Visit to Dashing Dehradun in the State of Uttaranchal in India

Dehradun is one of the most beautiful cities of India, which is situated in Northern India. It has a population of around 60000 people as of last count in the year 2005. This beautiful city is situated in the famous Dun valley at the height of around 2000 feet and is the capital city of the State of Uttaranchal in India. The city of Dehradun was ruled by the Garhwal kings for around 200 years in the past. It is a nice hill station having the healthiest environment.

Dehradun is well connected by all the three means of transportation. The nearest airport of Jolly Grant is just 15 miles away. It is also connected by railway from all the major cities of India like Mumbai and Delhi. There are regular bus services from all the major cities of Northern India. There are many places of tourist's interest here at Dehradun. The most famous place is the Forest Research Institute, which was established by the Britishers before around 110 years during their rule over India. The famous museum here has lot of specimen on forest products. The research work goes on continuously here in the field of Botanical science. The other place is the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, which has lot of rare species of Himalayan region. The next spot is Ramrai Durbar, which is located in Paltan market in the city area. Ramrai was a spoiled son of Sikh Dharmguru and was showing the magic tricks to the Mogul King Aurangzeb. The Mogul King took mercy on him and presented him the entire city of Dehradun. Ramrai was completely changed thereafter and established his own religion path, known as Udashi. After his death, Mogul King Aurangzeb built his grave in ancient Mogul style with the beautiful wall paintings here at Dehradun..
