Alaska may not be the first location, which comes to mind when thinking of a ski vacation, but Alaska possesses some of the best skiing locations in the world. The Alyeska Resort is one of the finest ski resorts in the state. This resort has a top elevation of 2751 feet and a 2501 vertical drop. This area receives an average of 631 inches of snow per year.

Even though this location is one of the finest in the world, you will not find the slops to be over crowded, and you will not find yourself waiting in lines to catch a chair lift. Included in the ski lifts which are available to their guest are, nine lifts, which include six chair lifts, and two surface lifts, and one cable car line. At Alyeska Ski Resort, you will be able to enjoy a total of 68 trails for all ranges of abilities, including beginners, intermediates, and experts. They largest percentages of the trails are designed for intermediate skiers.

For those who desire more adventure, night skiing is available. This is great for thrill seekers. While there you will see snow capped mountains, hanging glaciers, and of course the famed Northern Lights. The Alyeska Ski Resort is ranked number nine in the top twenty-five “killer trips” in Skiing Magazines.

Ski season begins at the Alyseka Resort in mid-November, and goes through mid-April. In this area of Alaska, you will experience one of the longest daytime areas in the United States, with approximately sixteen hours of daylight everyday through April. In the month of November, the day light hours are reduced to approximately seven hours per day. This is a great time to experience nighttime skiing.

I have heard there are some great places for heli-skiing in Alaska. Seems a long ways (for me anyway) to go for a trip though.
