This past weekend, my family and I were outside enjoying the beautiful spring weather and chatting with the neighbors. As the sirens blared down our street, we immediately thought someone had called the fire department to report our small fire in the yard. Our wiener roast was under control, so we headed off to inform the officials. To our surprise, it wasn't the fire department at all. It was an ambulance rushing to aid a juvenile in the home next door.

As we stared in awe at the lifeless body of the familiar toddler being rushed from the home, we feared the worst. Upon arrival of the emergency officials, the three year old boy was blue and unresponsive. He had been having a seizure and appeared not to be breathing.

After the fantastic work of numerous medical officials and nothing short of a miracle, the toddler was back home at his grandparent's the very next afternoon walking around and playing happily on his Power Wheels. As if this story was not enough to warm the heart, we turn our attention to the real hero of the tale.

The family dog, Cooper, is believed to have saved the boy's life. Neighbors say that the boy was happily watching cartoons when he began taking his nap. The unsuspecting grandparents simply left the boy to sleep. Unbeknownst to them, the juvenile went into a seizure and proceeded to have difficulty.

The family dog began to show signs of distress. The Yorkie just wouldn't stop bouncing around and trying to get attention. The grandparents decided to go check on the toddler after taking note of the dog's unusual behavior just in time to call for help.

The boy and Cooper are best buddies. They play together, snuggle together, and now have more time to enjoy their friendship. In fact, just moments after arriving home from the local hospital, the toddler and his family were seen out taking Cooper for a walk.

Some dogs are specially trained to help and assist individuals who experience seizures or other health problems. It seems some dogs have a keen sense for these things. Such instinctive characteristics certainly have shown up in this pet and has truly made him a hero.
