How to Properly Perform a Fast
Embed:
Many people are hesitant to perform a fast, because the word itself brings thoughts of starving and subsisting on bread and water alone. This however, couldn't be further from the truth. An all water fast with little or no food is actually very dangerous and not healthy for your body. Additionally, your body will need proper preparation before and after a fast to ensure your fast is helpful and not damaging.Your body will need a few days to properly prepare for a fast. During this time, usually a period of 2-3 days, you should consume only fresh fruits and vegetables. Doing so will help make the fast less of a shock to your system and will reduce some of the side effects you may feel from the fast.
During your fast, you will need to consume more than just water. Water is a necessary part of a fast and you should consume at least eight 8oz. glasses of water per day. However, in addition to you daily consumption of water you should also drink at least two cups of herbal tea a day, along with fresh pure juices.
Juices consumed during your fast should not be store bought bottled juices, but fresh juices you have made yourself that you drink as soon as they are prepared. This will help to provide your body with healthy nutrients and energy that will assist in proper healing. Juices should be made from green leafy vegetables, or foods like carrots, celery, apple or grape. Do not drink acidic juices such as orange or tomato juice.
There are foods that can be eaten during a fast if you absolutely feel you must eat. Watermelon and fresh, homemade applesauce can be consumed in moderation and will not affect the benefits that a fast will provide. You may also try taking Spirulina supplements which will not only provide your body with nutrients, but help make you feel full as well.
After your fast, you should again consume fresh fruits and vegetables for 2-3 days to help ease your body back into eating and digesting foods. You should never end a fast with a big heavy meal as this will be too much of a shock to your system and can make sick.
