This is the 42nd Smithsonian Folklife Festival; it is scheduled to occur during the dates June 25-June 29 and July 2-6, 2008. The festival will be open daily during the listed dates from 11am-5:30pm and evening evens at 6pm. This festival is a celebration and international display of living cultural heritage. This festival is free to everyone, just as the other museums in the Washington D.C. area are free to the public. The National Mall area will be sectioned off so that each section is host to a different region, and or nation celebrating that region or nation's folk culture and heritage, so that the public can learn more about it. There will be various demonstrations and performers on display, showing different aspects of that nation or region's folk culture. The festival definitely makes it fun for visitors, especially kids to learn about various folk cultures by actually interacting with them.
