Natural Ways to Get Rid of Head Lice

When Pesticides Aren't the Answer

School starts, you get everyone settled into their new routines, and as fall zooms along and you start focusing on the upcoming holidays…wham! One of your kids comes home with head lice. Head lice are passed around in any group setting, but particularly those that involve children:
daycare, playgroups, preschools, kindergarten, and school. Children are much more apt to have head lice because of the close proximity of their play. Girls are more susceptible probably because their hair is generally longer than boys’ hair; and because girls elementary school age and above share more physical proximity with their friends than boys do. If nothing else, girls do share their hair care products with each more than boys do.

Despite a long held social stigma and embarrassment about having head lice, it does not reflect on the hygiene or cleanliness of your home or child. On the contrary, head lice seem to appreciate nice, clean hair to live and lay eggs (“nits”) in. There is some anecdotal evidence that supports the phenomenon that people who use hair spray and hair gels are protected from head lice by their hair products.

Having head lice is not a sure ticket out of attending school any more either. The dreaded “no nits” policy of a few years ago is being phased out because having head lice is not a health issue. There is nothing dangerous or disease-laden. Having head lice may cause a child’s head to be itchy, and excessive scalp scratching could lead to infected skin, but that’s about the only health risk involved. They are simply very contagious and very annoying.

"Remember that this needs to be done for the first 3 days all the while removing the knots by hand." sorry i mean't knits or eggs attached to the hair that seem to congregate behind the ears the most in my experience but are everywhere. THIS is the hardest task in ridding lice as you need good eyes and lighting to do it right. good luck

A cheap, safe and effective way to rid head lice is to completely cover the infected head with a thick application of conditioner and let it sit for 30 minutes. The lice begin to suffocate and struggle to get to the top of the scaalp. Then it's critical that you comb the head with a lice comb taking the gobs of conditioner out and putting it somewhere like a sink. The lice are dark bodied and are clearly visible in the conditioner.Comb the conditioner out of the hair and rinse. Remember that this needs to be done for the first 3 days all the while removing the knots by hand.A long and tenuous procedure but necessary. In a week do it one more time and you should see nothing in the hair. A bottle of conditioner is cheap and it makes the hair easy to comb as well. As a father of 3 we've tried every other method with little success, this has worked miracles for us. Good luck and remember it's not because you did anything wrong that your child or you got lice.Clean people get lice like anyo

My daughter has head lice and I bought her a hair straightener to get rid of them. The heat burns the lice and the straight shape lets you remove eggs and lice easily. This is how my daughter and I got rid of lice. TRY IT!

DAY ONE-saturate head with Mint Listerine- cap for 2 hours (kills the Lice), rinse, saturate head with White Vinegar-cap for 1 hour (loosens the nits glue), rinse, palm full of Original Dawn Soap, rinse, and comb through with a Fine Toothed Metal Comb. DAY TWO-I have Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Conditioner that I get my daughter to wash with daily. Dry hair, go through hair with Lice Guard Robi Comb, You can use this daily, safe on children, and you can buy it at Walgreen's for $30.00. Spray everything! Girl's don't forget your bras, cars, and cell phones. Boil brushes 15 min., add water, Lysol in a can (about 2 caps full), repeat after brushing your hair each time. Foggers (Raid Concentrated Deep Reach). Lysol Neutra Air timed spray, set for every 30 minutes on dresser. DAY THREE-From GNC, Coconut Capsules, Break open 5, pour on scalp. Saturate head with a can of Coconut Milk- cap for 1 hour, Shampoo, rinse, dry,Robi Comb. It took me 1 day for the Lice, and 4 for the nits

For a little child I would make a simple recipe shampoo, and repeat everyday if needed. Mix 2 Tablespoons of Tea Tree Oil, 6 Ounces of Dawn Original Dishwashing Detergent, 2 Ounces of White Vinegar, shampoo hair, leave in for about 5 minutes, rinse, and go through it with a Fine toothed Metal Comb, dry hair, Robi Comb it. You can pre mix some, and have it for back up. In between sessions, anything Coconut. My 13 year old daughter (with thick long hair) kept coming home from Middle School with Lice. To my surprise, it's not mandatory for the Nurse to do Lice checks, or even send out notes to inform parents anonymously. Do you know that the after the nits hatch, it takes 3-4 days for these discusting things to reach sexual maturity and breed. I've tried everything but, nothing worked better than this! Come on Moms, put on your Gloves, grab your Starbucks Coffee, get into the ring, and let's do this!!! DAY ONE - saturate head with Mint Listerine - cover with a plastic cap for 2 hours (t
