Games to Play at a Fourth of July Barbecue - Water Balloon Fourth of July Trivia Game

Water Balloon Trivia is a game I created, and hope you enjoy. This Fourth of July game takes a little bit of preparation beforehand, but is a lot of fun once you start playing. It is appropriate for most people of any age, as a great deal of flexibility is built in to the game.

 Preparation

First, you need to find, print up, and laminate lists of Fourth of July related trivia questions along with their answers. Each player will need his or her own list. The questions must all be unique, so that no two players have the same question on their list. Once created, these trivia sheets may be used again, and more trivia sheets on the topic of the Fourth of July or other topics may be added.

Next, you need many water balloons and some type of bucket or container for each player in the game. For Fourth of July play, be sure to use red, white, and blue balloons. If you look around, you may be able to find balloons with stars on them, as well. Divide the water balloons evenly amongst all of the players. This is important.

Objective

The object of the game is to be the last player with whole water balloons.

How to Play

Each player is given a trivia sheet and a bucket of filled water balloons. Each player stands by their bucket of filled water balloons and holds their trivia list. Players determine how far apart they should be. Player One may be determined by whatever method the players choose, such as youngest player goes first.

Player One chooses any one opponent and asks them a Fourth of July trivia question from their own trivia sheet. If the opponent answers incorrectly, Player One throws one water balloon at that opponent. Throwing the water balloon is not a guarantee the opponent will be hit or that the water balloon will explode and shower the opponent with water. That is part of the fun in this Fourth of July game. If the balloon does not explode, the opponent at whom it was tossed gets to add it to his or her bucket.
