Recently I taught at a school. One of the teachers there--as many women do in springtime--likes to wear tops that are decollete. I tried to look her in the face to talk to her about a school-related matter. Let's just say that her "set gifts" stared right back at me, even as I tried to talk to her, looking her in the FACE. I am a clean-cut guy who loves Jesus and loves his wife, so I was not trying to do anything out of the way, and to jeopardize my job. So, embarrassed as heck, I quickly looked away. I tried to look up and maintain eye contact. I mean, if I didn't quickly do that, she could have charged me with sexual harassment, called my Substitute Service agency, and I would have been out of a job. The facts are, her gifts did not tempt me at all. I have my own set of "gifts" at home that I enjoy looking at, thank you!

Now let's say I was a less scrupulous guy who had no common sense, and was the stupidest guy who lived this side of the post Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill era, driven totally by my lusts. I would have looked my fill, and got my jollies by staring at her chest as it rose and fell as she spoke and subsequently sucked in air, preparing to speak again. There are many of those guys walking around, who are dressed very professionally. They look okay, but they are deranged and depraved people, the same type of male teachers who would stare down a young high school coed's low-cut skirt. And they are many.

What is a teacher to do? I am a SUBSTITUTE teacher, so consequently, I must pretend not to notice. I cannot send them to the office, as the principal may bring me up on charges, worst case scenario, or at least complain that he/she does not want me back at that school as I behaved very inappropriately. That is one bridge I do not want to cross, I have a wife to support. So I suck it up and try to protect myself.

The only true way to avoid sexual harassment suits is to cover-up.
