Fourth of July Fireworks and Boston Pops Orchestra in Boston, MA
A July 4th Celebration like No Other!
The premier fireworks spectacular on the Fourth of July can only be seen in Boston, MA, on the Esplanade along the Charles River. Other cities will have fireworks displays but Boston boasts the biggest pyrotechnic spectacular along with a majestic concert by the Boston Pops Orchestra.Organizers promise this year's fireworks display will be the "largest and most complex Boston Fourth of July pyrotechnic display to date." That's huge billing considering the massive fireworks explosions we have seen in Boston in the past.
Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular: Viewing
The fireworks display and Boston Pops Orchestra concert on July 3rd and July 4th are free. The combined concert and fireworks display on the Fourth of July is an unbeatable event for the entire family. You've never experienced July Fourth until you have been on the Oval at the Esplanade. You will thrill to the masterful music of the Boston Pops with a special guest appearance by Gretchen Wilson, and then enjoy the nation's most amazing fireworks display! Get ready to be awed and rocked.
The Boston Pops concert can best be enjoyed from the Oval lawn, in front of the Hatch Shell stage. This area fills up quickly. On July 3rd the Oval starts getting full between 6 and 7 pm. On July Fourth the gates open at 9:00am, and the Oval begins to fill by mid-morning. See Boston's July 4th website for a complete list of items that are not allowed on the Oval.
The Oval is surrounded by trees, so if you are most interested in fireworks viewing I suggest an alternate viewing location.
Boston's fireworks display can be seen from both the Boston and Cambridge sides of the Charles River. The events take place between the Longfellow and Massachusetts Avenue Bridges. Spectacular viewing sites can be located further along both sides of the river.
As traffic backs up and spectators pile in, you may find a side street parking lot from which to view the fireworks. If you know someone who lives in the area, hook-up for a place to park, cook-out, and view the fireworks. Housing on the Cambridge side offers balcony views of the fireworks.
