What is MMA? MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. Now the question is what is Mixed Martial Arts? Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-combat sport that combines elements of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, jujitsu and other disciplines. Mostly with MMA it's an anything goes technique.
Have you ever watched the UFC on Spike Network on Cable? UFC showcases Mixed Martial Arts. That is usually the program that shows the caged ring. No one can escape but more importantly no one can interfere with the fight.
Mixed Martial Arts is a sport that has a man's division and a woman's division. This is a physical contact sport. The players can get seriously injured, even killed. If you're looking for a safe sport, this sport is definitely not it. This is a sport of egotistical maniacs (like the WWF except real), beating the snot out of each other. Isn't that delightful? You won't find any "ladies" there but then again I doubt any "gentleman" will be on hand either.

From what I have seen of it you could compare it to a dog fight with the same results. If you like to see who is toughest and quickest all in one this is the no brain sport for you. There's a lot of flying parts on bodies. The competitors throw punches, kicks, hands, fists, elbows and even heads. If you ask me, now I know how Giuliani cleaned up the Bronx all those years ago, and got the gangs off the street.

Again, I think if you did some legitimate research, you would change your mind completely.
Regardless of whether this is a highly regulated sport or not the purpose of the sport remains the same - to beat up your opponent until you are declared the winner. If that is making the sport sound like a dog fight to you maybe you should check your own conscience. What is the purpose of the sport. They certainly aren't doing ballet in the caged ring. A fight is a fight regardless of whether it's regulated or not. In my defense, I did describe it as nicely as I could. Maybe you should figure out what derogatory comments are before you get negative. I didn't mention anything negative. "Beating the snot" out of each other is what fighters are supposed to do. I didn't say they were out to kill the poor chap. Regardless of who they are and what they do for a living and whether or not they have respect for the other person, when they get into that ring their job is to fight until the other person or themselves can no longer fight (safely). If that's wrong explain!
It seems like you have a lot to learn about what is now a highly regulated sport. If you understood what is going on in the cage, you would realize that it is far from the "dog fight" you make it out to be. In addition, if you watch, you will almost always notice that the people that take part in the sport have a tremendous respect for each other and that fighter safety is the most important part of the sport (overseen by the referee). The athletes that take part in the sport tend to be highly educated individuals who are elite athletes. I think you would be shocked if you ever met an MMA practitioner, mainly because you'd have no way of knowing that they practiced MMA unless they told you. They are just regular people most of the time. They are fire fighters, police, insurance sales rep, mothers, fathers, doctors, and lawyers. I respect your right to have whatever opinion you may, but I would encourage you to learn more before making such generalized and derogatory comments.
