Anime Review of Macross Frontier

"Macross Frontier" is a recently released Japanese anime series with thirteen episodes scheduled for release. Yasuhito Kikuchi is the director with Shoji Kawamori as the supervising director. Hiroyuki Yoshino is the writer with Shoji Kawamori providing the
original concept and the story composition. Macross Frontier is produced by Starlight and licensed by Big West. It is currently airing on the MBS, TBS, and Animax networks on Japan. The first episode was released on April 3, 2008.

The release of Macross Frontier is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the 1982 "Super Dimension Fortress Macross" anime series. Chronologically, this is connected to the 1994 to 1996 "Macross 7" series. This is set in the Macross timeline in the year of 2059, only a few decades into the future. Who knows what the year 2059 will really look like?

Like the other Macross series, Macross Frontier combines the genres of mecha and science fiction.

Macross Frontier revolves around the 25th colonial fleet known as the Macross Frontier. This fleet is out to head towards the center of the galaxy. The story begins as a team is set to explore a new asteroid belt. But, they cross paths with a biomechanical alien mecha known as a Vajra that has insectoid properties. As a result, a new war ends up starting which looks to drive the story of Macross Frontier.

In the chaos of the attack on the space colony, the main character Saotome Alto is forced to take control of the new VF-25 variable fighter to combat the attacking Vajra. Alto is a high school student that is training to be a pilot. He is an interesting character in both personality and appearance.

Appearance wise, Alto is a bishonen, which translates into "beautiful boy." Due to his physical features, many people think that Alto is a female. However, Alto is just like any other boy. He wants to be a pilot; his family wants him to be a Kabuki actor. The story focuses on Alto as he pilots the new fighter along with other members of the military contracting company known as SMS.

However, the series also places focus on Ranka Lee and Sheryl Nome.

ahh are you sure its 13 and not 26? I know that they have released the titles up to 13...but everything i have read states that there will be ATLEAST 26 episodes. 13 is kinda short...especially with the way things are going, it would leave alot of fans extremely peeved if they try to wrap up everything that has happened in the last 10 episodes into 3. The series is meant as a tribute to Macross' 25th anniversary, but it has a life of its own and it would be a shame if they blow it out too soon. No...i think they will go the 26 episode route...with the possibility of a second 26 later...ala Code Geass. 26 has been the standard most anime TV series since the mid 90's, especially for Shoji Kawamori...Escaflowne, Aquarion, etc
