Quick, Easy and Cheap Halloween Costumes for Kids (or Adults)

I read "Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas" and thought that I would add my two cents for last minute easy Halloween costume ideas.

It has happened to me a few times on Halloween. Either my child couldn't decide what they wanted until the last minute, or I hadn't had time to make a Halloween costume. With a little creativity and negligible crafting skills, we were still able to come up with an acceptable costume for Halloween in time for trick-or-treats.

The most original Halloween costume we came up with was a brand name crayon. This costume is not suitable for older kids. The way it is constructed makes walking difficult unless the person is small.

What we did was buy two pieces of posterboard. Any color works, but we chose white so the brand name would show up better. Take one of the pieces of posterboard and shape into a cone. This becomes the crayon tip and is worn like a hat. Place on child's head to measure and tape the seam together. On the other piece of posterboard, we used markers to decorate the middle of it with the company name of the crayon. Wrap this piece of posterboard around the child and secure in the back with pieces of tape. Matching sweatpants add to the look, but aren't necessary. You can also paint your child's face to match using the homemade face paint listed.

Because of the way that this is constructed, don't start wearing it until right before heading out the door to go trick-or-treating. With that said, it lasted three hours with no problems when our daughter wore it. If you want to win a Halloween contest for best or most original costume, try this one. At virtually every door, we got comments on my daughter's costume, and everyone recognized her costume instantly.
