I have to admit I'm a bit excited by the premise of "She's Got The Look", a new reality show by Kim Alexis, a 48 year old model and actress. Here, would be models over the age of 35 compete for a modeling contract with Wilhelmina Models and a photo shoot for Self. This is huge news, for one Wilhelmina Models is huge in and of itself as the models from America's Next Top Model get the chance to do a spread in Seventeen, which is more of a divergence of pop culture and fashion for adolescents and this seems to be somewhat of a more promising entry into the fashion world than a contract with CoverGirl cosmetics.

TV Land is a great choice as well, the reality shows over there aren't ridiculous and they offer a compelling alternative to network programming for audiences in the age set that this show is targeting. This also is a more committed take on reality shows for older people such as when Oprah held her own talent competition a few years back. The winner of that competition released a single but it didn't seem as though there was a serious effort to promote her singing career.

Some of the contestants are in their late fifties, which is great, and the fact that someone out there is celebrating the beauty and sexiness of older woman is something long overdue. In America we seem to do so in spurts; Sharon Stone and Demi Moore, Kim Cattrall's character of Samantha, Eartha Kitt playing herself as a parody every now and again. There is no real commitment to showing how fabulous older women are or a true appreciation of them in American culture, and this show offers a real chance to address this and give a unique perspective as their is no logical reason why someone's modeling career cannot either extend into their thirties or forties or even start at a later stage in one's life.

I don't think this show has anything to do with dating, FYI. :-)
