In other news, the woman who inspired the cartoon series mom from "Family Circus" in newspapers nationwide passed away recently. Thelma Keane, 82, whose character in the comic strip was created by her husband Bill, died of Alzheimer's disease, accordng to the Associated Press. The comic, which Thelma's husband began drawing in 1960, depicts the life of two parents and their four children, as stated in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

In other show business news, acclaimed director Sydney Pollack passed away recently also from cancer, according to legacy.com. The Academy-Award winning director described by the AP as a Hollywood mainstay who achieved commercial success and critical acclaim with the film "Tootsie" and the period drama "Out of Africa" was 73. Pollack, who occasionally appeared on screen, worked with and gained the respect of Hollywood's best actors in a long career that reached prominence in the 1970s and 80s, according to his obituary. He played opposite George Clooney in the film "Michael Clayton" which Pollack also co-produced.
