Are the beaches in your location overcrowded? Are you looking for a more down to earth nightlife? Looking to get involved with the locals while you're visiting someplace new? There is no better place when visiting South Carolina that stopping by Folly Beach.

The island of Folly Beach is only six miles in length, shortened by Hurricane Hugo, it's northern point holds the remains of shops and houses that were washed out to see. Of all the famous tourist attractions, it's lighthouse, Morris Island Lighthouse, sits alone and depending on the tide, is only available for an up close view at certain hours. Do take a tourist guide with you if you choose to get a closer look, less you be stuck out on the Lighthouse for hours.

Infamous for it's slogan, "The Edge of America", this beach is the furthest eastern point one can stand in the continental United States. It's beaches are much less crowded than surrounding areas and you'll find a lot more laid back locals hanging about. A little secret less known to most tourists, the more north you walk along the beach, closer to the lighthouse, you'll find the beach less crowded and the surf much better for anyone looking to catch a few waves.

One of the main attractions is the pier, the Folly Beach Fishing Pier. With some time on your hands, you can watch the fishermen catch fish or try your own hand at it. Fishing poles and bait and even your license can be purchased at the little shop on the pier.

Across from the shop is the restaurant Starfish Grille offers a variety of good things to eat. Oysters and other sea life can be tasted while dining out in full view of the pier and the ocean at outside tables. It's friendly staff and reasonable prices make it a unique and fun place to dine.

If you are looking for a good breakfast while you are starting your day, do try the Lost Dog Café. Known for it's favoritism for our favorite four legged friends, you can stop in or carry out a good omelet, bacon and eggs or some tasty muffins and coffee. There is something for everyone in this great café.
