Hollow Man 2: So-So Effort

The original Hollow man, which was released in 2000, was a great “Fun” horror film with solid acting and typical Paul Verhoeven violence. Hollow Man 2, released May 2006 and Stars Christen Slater as the psychopathic invisible man this time around with Paul Verhoeven’s
name on the executive producer credit (I bet it was a cash thing). So does Hollow Man 2 outdo the original? Well, No. Is it still a decent follow up? Somewhat

Where Hollow Man 2 fails really is in the visuals. I’m guessing the budget was lower this time around because the visual effects were limited. Most of the time you only hear the voice of the invisible man and once and awhile you see some nice visual effects. If the budget was higher it would have been better for the film. Also the Hollow man Vs. Hollow Man scene could have been longer. It was over before it started. What we do get in the scene is pretty cool. Damn, I wish this had a bigger budget!

With the lack of visual FX, what the movie could have had to punch it up would be gore, but it failed in that department. There’s a nice gory moment in the opening, but after that it’s pretty damn dry. Come on, the filmmakers should of packed with this one with gore. Disappointing.

Although I can’t say I was never bored with Hollow Man 2, I was never excited either. The movie goes by a fast 90 or so minutes but I wasn’t jumping up and down with excitement either. At least I wasn’t driven to sleep by it.

I liked how the story wasn’t a repeat of the originals. But an extension. It was interesting enough to keep me watching for 90 minutes. Also Christian Slater’s character is different from Kevin Bacon’s from the original. Yeah, they’re both crazy but they have different reasons to be.

The acting is pretty good. Both Peter Facinelli and Laura Regan do a great job. They’re characters are likable and they work well with each other. I can’t say much on Christian Slater considering it’s his voice 95% out of the time. He does a great job at it, I guess.

The directing by Claudio Fah is serviceable and gives the movie a slick look. Decent.
