It is the Halloween season as I write this. I am planning on hiding out in my bedroom with the lights off in the rest of the apartment when the actual day comes because I have a crazy dog and I don’t want to deal with her trying to eat the cute little trick-or-treaters. Right now I am also sitting next to the latest Stephen King novel which is entitled “Lisey’s Story.” I am all of 25-pages into the book and so far it is pretty good and I am likely to read the rest. Then again, I am a huge Stephen King fan so I would read pretty much anything he has ever written.

I don’t know if it is possible for a person to be a mentor without ever actually meeting the men-tee, but I have always considered Stephen King a kind of mentor. I have loved his writing for a long time and have wanted to be a writer for a long time. Whenever I have read his stuff I have always been inspired. I have learned from the mistakes he made in his life and learned from the way he wrote to improve my own writing.

I doubt I will ever be as good as King. I don’t mind that. I know he is dismissed as some kind of “pop” fiction writer. I don’t think writing “pop” fiction is a bad thing. I think he also creates great characters and compelling stories and I highly recommend you pick up one of his books and give it a try.

I have written a lot of lists lately. People seem to like lists. So, I figured I would write a list about Stephen King. These are my favorites and, thankfully, he has enough written that I can create a list like this. Some of them are the ones you would expect from a King fan but I think there might be some that other King fans have not mentioned.

Takeaways
  • Here's some books to keep you up at night.
  • Stephen King gets a bad rap, but he is a great writer.
  • I think you'll like these books.
