Dogs Do Bite - Even the Small Ones

Something to Think About for Every Dog Owner

I need to start this article by saying that I adore dogs. If a person unknown to me says their dog died, I burst in instant tears. If I hear about a person dying, I think, "well, don't we all, some day." So that is to say, that I am not one of those people who want to
ban this or that dog breed because it's dangerous.

The second thing I need you to know, is that I just had a first hand experience of being bitten by a dog badly enough to land me in the hospital at the plastic surgery unit. So it's not like I'm one of those people who will reassure you that dogs are not dangerous. They are.

Currently I own only one dog. My breed of choice is the Field Spaniel, a non-dominating, calm, happy, loving and relaxed breed naturally, who doesn't necessarily need training to keep me out of trouble. That is not to say that I could not train a dog to obey a wink of my eye if I wanted to, I just don't want to.

I love that dog of mine to pieces, and I would protect him with my life if needed, and that is what got me into trouble with the dog that bit me - a Doberman. The Doberman is a breed physically bred to kill, but that does not make them uncontrollable, but that makes it a breed that needs a bit more knowledge of handling one than your average Jack Russel that is more amusing than scary when they go into a fit. (And let's face it, they often do.)
