I spent most of my adult life on building-sites. Not exactly the most elegant surroundings and not the most refined men work there. So, it's not as if I have lived in a secluded cloister, surrounded by women who talk in soft voices, and have catered to my every whim.

Because I am almost always in male company I also have girl-friends for the all-important girl-talks. After all, there are some things we want to discuss without men hovering in the background. It was one of those talks that got me thinking about writing this article. The friend told me that she was always treated badly, especially by men, and always seemed to end up with losers. If this sounds like you, perhaps this will help:

1. How much self-respect do you have?

If you have absolutely no respect for yourself, how can you expect it from others? Shrugging your shoulders while saying :"Oh, I'm a total idiot", "I'm ugly anyway", "I know nothing about anything", won't inspire people to respect you in a hurry. Would you want to talk to someone like that, let go give respect?

2. What you put out will come back.

If you dress like a hooker, then that's the treatment you'll get. It's hard to have a conversation with someone who has a cleavage down to her navel. Especially men, who are not good at having two thoughts at the same time; they're waiting for the boobs to fall out. You can not expect them to hold an intelligent conversation at the same time, while staring at a cleavage. The same goes for visible g-strings. If you want a man's concentration, don't distract him too much. The other attractions can wait for later in the bedroom. (if that's your intention).

3. Dress well.

Dress fashionably and elegantly. This is really not too difficult to do. You don't have to be a 6ft. model with an unlimited budget either. Black pants and a black sweater are available everywhere; as well as jeans. The mistake a lot of women make is to combine it with sneakers. But girls, sneakers are only to be worn on a tennis court or when you want to go hiking in the woods. An absolute no no. High heels look good on all women; they make you look tall and very sexy.

4. Don't curse like a biker.

With my limitations, the high heels are out. But I have learned to invest in stylish shoes that obviously state that "I care about looking good". I cannot express in this itty bitty box just how important is this advice from Mary Jane. I lost a few decades before l I learned these very same SIMPLE lessons. Great words, Mary Jane.
