Boulder Field - the Perfect Place to Visit and Explore at Hickory Run State Park Pennsylvania

Boulder Field is a fantastic location in Pennsylvania! This special field is located at Hickory State Park in White Haven, PA. It is a site worth driving too.
Driving up the one lane road, trees sweep along the side of the car. The dirt sprays behind you as you maneuver through the twisting roads up and down. Your destination is Boulder Field. It is worth the drive and effort to get here. Looking out the window you may catch a glimpse of something through the trees. A deer, squirrels, chipmunks, you may even be lucky enough to see a brown bear. Nature is at its best here. Finding the parking lot to boulder field is easy. Hickory Run State Park keeps their signs very neat and legible for tourists. Now it is time to see what all the hype is about.

Going through a small path on your right hand side you will see a billboard with the history of the site. Next you see a few large rocks in front of you. Climbing these rocks you look out to see 14- Acres of rocks! Large, medium and small. The field is 12 feet deep! Boulder Field is a National Natural Landmark. It was created from an unglaciated area in the last ice-age when every thing else was covered by the glaciers. This area has remained almost unchanged for the past 20,000 years.

The reason this field is so unique is because of the way it looks. It is almost completely flat! When standing at the beginning of it you can see to the other side. It is a long walk though but many families make it. This is a great site to explore with young children. They love being able to climb over the boulders which can reach 26- feet long in places. They also get to learn a little about the history of the place. There is barely any vegetation in boulder field. When looking across the beautiful landscape you will see a lonesome tree and barely anything else.

Underneath these boulders water flows. This water becomes a tributary that leads to Hickory Run Creek. There are several trails through Hickory Run State Forest and a few of them run off of or into Boulder Field. One of the trails is called Boulder Run.
