Many proponents of the Iraq war have said that no matter if you were for or against the war from the beginning, we must unite for victory. What is ostensibly ignored is if the war was built on an illegally feeble foundation crafted with lies and contempt, we must wonder how this case can continue to stand. Our country was told that Saddam Hussein had broken international law but through the invasion of Iraq, America had broken the same laws. Article VI paragraph two of the United States Constitution states, "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding." 1
By invading Iraq we violated U.S. Federal Law 18 U.S.C. §2441, which defines committing a war crime as "a grave breach in any of the international conventions signed at Geneva August 12, 1949 or any protocol to such convention to which the United States is a party..." punishable by fine, imprisonment, or death. 2
In turn, America has violated the Laws and Customs of War on Land (Hague IV), United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3314, Nuremberg Tribunal Charter, and Geneva Conventions Protocol I, Articles 75, 51, 70, 35, Convention I, Articles 3, Convention III, Article 5, and Convention IV, Article 33.
Many years ago in a land known as Babylon there was a King named Belshazzar who had built his temple on a foundation of sand. Around this great fortress city, he built a wall around it and decreed it would never collapse. Even with all of the false propaganda and for all the lavish banquets his days were numbered. While enjoying the spoils of their conquests worshipping their false idols a hand appeared and began to write on the wall.
