Argentine Tango is commonly mistaken for the Ballroom Tango because of their common styles, and how common they look when being viewed by the audience; however, they are actually not the same, and there are some distinct differences you can view. In this article we will identify the differences between the two tangos so that you can find differentiate between the two. There are 4 differences between the two.

For one, Argentine Tango is based on improvisation; there are continuously different changes which occur daily on the dance floor, and the musicality of the Argentine Tango and music evolves day by day. The steps and the step styles are not fixed and differentiate by speed and quality like how smooth it is. The Ballroom Tango, on the other hand, is standardized, and used for competition. The steps are generally the same and fixed in time.

The embrace of the Argentine Tango and the Ballroom Tango is rather different as well. For Ballroom Tango, the upper body is away from one another while having the hips closely joined together at the same time. Argentine Tango, on the other hand, has the dancers' chest close to each other while their hips are more apart. Also, depending on the embrace and the closeness of their embrace, their faces may be fairly close together as well. Argentine Tango is improvised so their embrace has to be more comfortable like a hug.

The walks in both of the systems are also different. For one, in the Ballroom Tango, whenever there is a weight change, it automatically balances out at the other partner. Also, in Ballroom Tango, the crossed system is considered incorrect. Crossed system is when the leader freely steps with his left foot, and the follower steps with her left foot too. This is, however, considered appropriate for Argentine Tango which gives it so much more variety in the dance steps, and dance style.
