Towering high above Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, California is an example of today's dedicated television viewer. Fans of the former-CBS serial drama Jericho, self-named Rangers, have erected a billboard offering their favorite show "For Sale". While acquisition of a billboard may seem extreme for most fandoms, Jericho fans are known for their innovative ideas which have changed the way future fandoms might deal with the loss of a beloved TV show.

After CBS' first cancellation of Jericho at the conclusion of its freshman season, viewers banded together to send 20 tons of nuts to CBS studios. Their barrage was in line with a quote from the season finale in which the town's hero, Jake Green, led battered Jericho, Kansas into battle against a neighboring town with a battle cry of -- you guessed it!-- "Nuts". CBS acknowledged errors made in cancellation of the series and brought it back for seven mid-season episodes which debuted in February 2008. They put the responsibility of increasing the number of season two viewers on the shoulders of the dedicated fans; a move fairly unprecedented in television.

Mediocre ratings led to a second CBS cancellation (though pulling 6 million viewers in a notoriously difficult time slot should be viewed as impressive). Fans immediately began to send postcards and letters to CBS, as well as other venues they thought might be interested in airing the remaining Jericho story. Nut deliveries have been made to Nielsen, who many Jericho fans blame for their show's cancellation due to an outdated viewership counting system.

You hit the nail on the head. We Jericho Rangers are the most innovative, dedicated fan group in recent history. Nielsen better get with the program and count viewers on all platforms. Season 3 for you and me!

Thank you for you positve words about this very intelligent and original show. In the world of formulated comedies, police shows and quote reality shows Jericho is a breath of fresh air!! We live in a world that does not move the same as the 50's thru the 90's. The current standard that is used to measure viewing habits are out dated and cannot keep up. I did watch when Jericho aired at 8: 00 on Wednesdays and 10:00 on Tuesday night. But I am not part of the program that measures viewership so I feel that I was never counted! So for now I will continue to fight to find a place who will appreicate this gem and all of us the loyal viewers!!

This is the real deal!

Thank you very much for your kind words about Jericho and it's loyal fans. Quality programming is a must and Jericho fans are a prime example of just what we will do to see our show...DVR, TiVo, online viewing, downloads, buy the DVDs, etc. Not everyone in America can sit down at the prescribed time to see our shows, some of us are working in hospitals, patrolling the streets, working in factories and many other night jobs...America no longer rolls up the sidewalks at sundown.
