I'm sure many of you (or some) have read reviews about Guitar Hero III and how it has a big challenge in Rock Band or have read how Rock Band is the game to beat. Well, despite all excess bias and conclusions, it is time that I dish out my perspective on this,

Upon picking up a copy of the game at Gamestop, I was determined to check it out. Friends have praised it and my brother (and his friends) booed it. I was determined to find out. If you don't have the guitar controller from GHII or III, nor bought the game with the bundle pack (which spans about the same cost as a core XBox 360 itself) you'll be stuck doing vocals through a headset connected to your 360 controller. It is commendable that the XBox360 version, unlike the PS3 version, works with the GHII/III controllers in case if you weren't in the mood to spend console-quality money.

As far as presentation goes, the game starts off with an awesome video reminiscent of Queen's Breakthru video (band performing on top of a full speeding van) with the song Highway Star by Deep Purple. I was expecting big things once I saw that intro sequence. Once you press start, you see a very simple yet stylish menu screen which directs you to solo career mode (it will detect your chosen instrument with exception of no solo bass playing), world tour mode (which is career mode in multiplayer format), options, training, rockoff (vs. mode online as well as offline) and xbox live (for downloadable content). The training mode is very good as it will introduce you how to play with the instrument of choice through different exercises. If you've never played Guitar Hero I-III, this game will introduce you to how playing those games practically work with the guitar controller.
